Stone Temple Pilots History
Stone Temple Pilots (STP) is an iconic American rock band formed in San Diego, California, in 1989. The band's original lineup consisted of the DeLeo brothers, Robert (bass guitar) and Dean (guitar), along with drummer Eric Kretz and lead vocalist Scott Weiland. They gained prominence in the early 1990s with their debut album, 'Core,' which featured hits like 'Plush' and 'Creep.' STP became a staple in the grunge era, often blending alternative rock with hard rock influences. Their subsequent albums, 'Purple' and 'Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop,' solidified their position in rock history, showcasing their ability to evolve musically while maintaining a distinct sound. However, the band faced challenges, including Scott Weiland's struggles with substance abuse, which led to multiple lineup changes and hiatuses over the years. Following Weiland's departure in 2013, STP recruited Chester Bennington of Linkin Park as their new frontman, releasing the album 'High Rise' in 2013. After Bennington's departure in 2015, the band welcomed Jeff Gutt as their new lead singer, allowing them to continue touring and recording new music. Stone Temple Pilots has left an indelible mark on the rock scene, with their live performances being a testament to their enduring legacy and ability to connect with audiences.
