Peoria Chiefs History
The Peoria Chiefs are a minor league baseball team based in Peoria, Illinois. Founded in 1983, the team has undergone several name changes and affiliations over the years. Initially, they were known as the Peoria Suns and were affiliated with the Chicago Cubs. In 1984, they changed their name to the Chiefs and began a long-standing affiliation with the St. Louis Cardinals, which lasted until 1992. After a brief period with the Cardinals, the team became affiliated with the Chicago Cubs again from 1993 to 2004. The Chiefs have been a Class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals since 2013. The team plays its home games at Dozer Park, a facility that opened in 2002 and has a seating capacity of approximately 7,000.
