North Carolina Courage History
The North Carolina Courage is a professional women's soccer team based in Cary, North Carolina. The team was established in 2012 as the Western New York Flash and played in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) starting in 2013. The Flash enjoyed immediate success, winning the NWSL Championship in 2013. However, in 2017, the team relocated to North Carolina and was rebranded as the North Carolina Courage. This move was part of a larger effort to promote women's soccer in the southern United States, where the sport has been gaining popularity. Under the guidance of head coach Paul Riley, the Courage quickly established themselves as a dominant force in the league, winning the NWSL Shield and the championship in 2018 and 2019, making them one of the most successful teams in NWSL history. The Courage have built a strong fanbase and have been instrumental in promoting women's sports in the region, hosting various events and community engagements to foster local support.
