Fredericksburg Nationals History
The Fredericksburg Nationals, often referred to as the FredNats, are a Minor League Baseball team located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The team was established in 2020 as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Before relocating to Fredericksburg, the franchise was known as the Potomac Nationals and played in Woodbridge, Virginia, since 1978. The move to Fredericksburg was part of a broader initiative to enhance the community's engagement with baseball and provide a more family-friendly atmosphere. The FredNats play their home games at the newly constructed Virginia Credit Union Stadium, which opened in 2020 and has a capacity of about 5,000 fans. The team quickly became a pivotal part of the local community, hosting numerous events and promoting youth baseball programs. Their inaugural season was unique due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited attendance and altered the league's schedule, but the team successfully navigated these challenges, creating a strong fan base and establishing itself within the local sports culture.
